About Me

I am proud to say that after serving private clients for decades, I am performing volunteer service in the legal community, having enjoyed the respect of clients since my admission because I listened to them and then helped them investigate their options and assess the possible results of those alternatives. I am semi-retired from active practice, primarily volunteering with the Alameda County Bar Association “CLASP” clinic and the AIDS Lawyer Referral Panel.

I am still “Active,” and I can listen and give guidance to clients.

Practice History

During my early years in the legal profession, I practiced construction contract advice and construction defect litigation as well as unfair business practices law. After representing plaintiffs in personal injury matters for a few years, I again practiced construction defect litigation, plaintiff securities fraud, and broker-dealer law.

Practice Focus

My Professional Development Education includes having completed the comprehensive Estate Planning Certificate program within the Masters in Tax Program at Golden Gate Law School.

I am a member of the East Bay Trusts and Estates Lawyers and the Alameda County Bar Association.

Volunteer History

Since I became a member of the California Bar, I have enjoyed volunteering my legal services. For over two decades, I volunteered two Saturdays a month, providing services in the fields of trust and probate law with the Justice & Diversity Center (“JDC”), (formerly Volunteer Legal Services Program [“VLSP”]), of the Bar Association of San Francisco, Legal Advice and Referral Clinic [“LARC”]. For three decades, I served on the JDC Wills and Guardianship Panels.

On the first Saturday of every month, I volunteer with the Alameda County Bar Association Community Legal Assistance Saturday Program (“CLASP”).

Throughout the year, I also serve as a volunteer attorney with the AIDS Lawyer Referral Panel (“ALRP”).

Over the years, I have volunteered with various VLSP Panels, providing legal assistance to clients in the fields of Guardianships, Family Law, INS-Amnesty, the Landlord-Tenant Courthouse Project, and Project Homeless Connect.

As a community volunteer for more-than-three decades, I have served the San Francisco LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired as a Radio Broadcaster for Broadcast Services for the Blind and a Volunteer Reader of whatever clients wanted recorded and, for many years, as the Voice of the Lantern, the then-monthly newsletter [under the pen name Rebecca Cubert].

I am a member of the following committees:

  • Temple Israel of Alameda Social Justice Committee;
  • Alameda League of Women Voters Action Committee; and
  • California LWV Criminal Justice Reform Committee.

Please read the article about me being honored as BASF JDC Volunteer of the Month for March 2018.

Here’s a peek into my personal life. I began my community service as a teen. I enjoy leisurely horseback rides, camping, reading (especially science, science fiction, and light mysteries – member of The [Nero] Wolfe Pack), brisk walking, American and Chinese mahjong, and a good game of Billiards.
